Yachad Shabbaton

Guest post by Nicole Feigenblum and Sara Linder

This past Shabbat, Yavneh’s eighth graders joined many Yachad members at Ahavat Achim, in Fair Lawn, New Jersey. Over Shabbat, everyone had a chance to connect with each other, creating a tight bond and lasting friendships. Along with the Yachad advisors, the eighth graders and Yachad members participated in games, dancing, and singing zmirot.

Friday night, after tefilla, we played “Get to Know You,” where everyone introduced themselves to the others in their group. Next, the Yachad members each had the chance to show off a talent of theirs. Then was dinner, after which there was dancing and singing. Following that was circle time, in which the advisors led us in games like “Introduce Yourself,” “Bulldog,” and “Boom Chick A Boom.” Before going home, there was a short oneg, including superbowl food from Dougie’s, cupcakes, and cookies.

Shabbat morning began with Yavneh students leading the davening and layning. We then had Round Robins, which consisted of different types of learning games about the parsha. Next was lunch, where we sang zmirot, danced, and had divrei Torah. The divrei Torah were given after each meal, by a Yavneh student and a Yachad member, reading a dvar Torah written by an eighth grader. Shabbat came to a close with a se’udat shlishit and a very meaningful Havdalah ceremony.

The Shabbaton ended on a lively note, with dancing, pizza, and ice cream at a melavah malka, Yavneh and Yachad style.
