Purim in the Middle School!

As always, the Purim celebrations in the Middle School proved to be a highlight of the year in so many ways. The festivities kicked off last Motzaei Shabbat, Purim night, with our school's annual Megilla reading and chagiga. Thirteen of our 8th grade boys, after many weeks of careful preparation, did an expert job of reading the Megilla to large crowds in both the gym and the Beit Midrash. Megilla reading was followed by entertainment, dinner, and -most important - Ben and Jerry's ice cream.

On Shushan Purim the celebrations in school continued. Our students and teachers all came to school dressed in their finest (or most bizarre) costumes. In addition to the general mood of joy that was palpable in the halls, our students participated in the Wacky and Wild game show, where they had the chance to take part in a variety of strange and sometimes messy races and competitions.

Our day was capped off by our annual Rebbe Purim grammen and our Chinese Auction. For the 7th year, our Rebbeim coordinated their costume according to a mystery theme, challenging anyone to figure it out. In what was deemed to be the most difficult one yet, our Rebbeim (including Rabbi Sussman) were disguised as the Shivat HaMinim, or some representation of them, and their grammen revealed one by one what each Rebbe was dressed as. In our Chinese Auction, which raised over $2,300 in just over a week, students won a variety of prizes offered by teachers, ranging from class parties to basketball games to Shabbat meals. In all, Purim brought much color and excitement into the school during some very dreary weather.
