8th Grade Holocaust Play

Rare are the times when an entire grade has the chance to collaborate on a project - but that is exactly what takes place when our 8th graders stage their annual Holocaust play. This year's play, entitled "An Unlikely Hero: The Pinchas Rosenbaum Story," not only starred members of this year's graduating class, but also was written by them, and featured their artwork as the sets, their music both between scenes and during the rousing final chorus of לולא תורתך, and their technical expertise in working the lighting. Truly, our students had a chance to be involved in every aspect of staging this play.

Pinchas Rosenbaum was a Hungarian Jew who, despite his upbringing, developed into an ardent Zionist and who refused to stand idly by as the Shoah ravaged the Jewish population of Hungary. Through his indomitable and infectious spirit and his ability to work with and inspire others, he was responsible for saving the lives of many of his countrymen. We are honored that his two sons are flying in from Europe and Israel to witness the performance this evening.

A tremendous kol hakavod to our entire 8th grade class for a superb performance. Kudos as well to Dominique Cieri, who leads our students through the dramatic process, and to Rabbi Burstein, our director of Holocaust Studies, for all of his efforts in bringing this play to its wonderful fruition.
